Whale Shark “Butanding”
The whale sharks (locally called “Butanding”) in Oslob, Cebu, Philippines have been an attraction to both local and international tourists. Unfortunately, the gentle giants’ stay has been unhealthy because of many factors affecting themselves as migratory fish species. Notice its upper caudal fin being cut.

Whale Shark “Butanding” Encounter Rules
• No touching/riding on the Butanding
• Do not restrict the movement of the shark or block its natural path
• Recommended distance from the whale shark is 3 meters from the head and body and 4 meters from the tail
• No flash photography allowed
• No scuba, scooters, jet-ski or any motorized underwater propulsion
